Like a fragment of a dream, this series of photomontages capture a brief moment of a story. Strange creatures existing in familiar environments.
When I began this series, I would skim through endless stacks of magazines. Flipping past page after page, until suddenly, something would catch my attention and make me pause. A shape or texture would draw me in, and my mind would start transforming the original object into something new.
Once this element was selected, I required an environment for the creature to grow. The background became incredibly important in defining the mood of the piece, and how the transformation would unfold...
Once each image was complete, I would have the original scanned on a flatbed scanner, and then digitally enlarged. The pieces are a direct enlargement of the originals, and have not been processed further on the computer.
These are offset by the smaller original pieces that have been included in the show, which demonstrate the cut and paste element of the work.
